Ten Years
02:52
|
|||
When I began
I thought I knew about everything.
Then it set in
That I had no clue, but I still felt the will to win
I made mistakes
Count on the grace of those who stay.
Trust my heart
Listen when it says I deserve a brand new start.
I know what I'm worth
There ain't no one like me on earth
And I believe ten years is long enough to know
Things ain't gonna change.
Look out in the world
Ask why should my joy be deferred?
Seek my heart
In it, find dreams to make my life a work of art.
'Cause there ain't much good sense
In putting up with any less.
Take what's mine
And have faith that the universe provides
I know what I'm worth
There ain't no one like me on earth
And I believe ten years is long enough to know
Things ain't gonna change.
Growing all the time
What's old is dead and uninspired.
Never accept
What was good enough the last time someone checked.
Adapt or die
I cannot let life pass me by.
Find my song
And, good Lord willing, let me sing it all life long.
I know what I'm worth
There ain't no one like me on earth
And I believe ten years is long enough to know...
Yeah, I know what I'm worth
There ain't no one like me on earth
And I believe ten years is long enough to know
Things ain't gonna change.

The Walk
04:18
|
|||
Hands buried in pockets
Thick stockings filling boots
Coats - cooled from time off the main rooms -
Now donned in fight against the late autumn air.
Down the road past the open fields,
Their borders dotted with ancient stones,
Our troupe soldiers on to
Find the frozen brook by the forgotten railroad tracks.
Our mothers made us;
Our fathers made us;
Our uncles and aunts made us, but,
It was our grandparents who
Asked, invited, suggested that,
Perhaps,
Some Old-World-Wisdom of a stately walk
After the weight of a meal
Could be a balm for the soul.

Today's The Day
03:20
|
|||
Wake up in the morning
See that light dawning
On the world we left behind
The night before
Feel your spirit rise
Your heart revitalized
And you know today's the day
To feed your soul.
Everybody come out from within
Shed your woes and your sin
Join our singing
Raise your voice so loud and clear.
Come from all walks of life
Bear no trouble, keep no strife,
'Cause you know today's the day
To feed your soul.
Everyone who's able
Come and meet us at the table
Share the peace within your heart
With all of us.
Look around and feel the love
That feels sent from up above
And remember how to live
That Golden Rule.
Everybody come out from within
Shed your woes and your sin
Join our singing
Raise your voice so loud and clear.
Come from all walks of life
Bear no trouble, keep no strife,
'Cause you know today's the day
To feed your soul.
Sit with me and recall
How we joined hands one and all
How we held each other
Close within our hearts.
Yes we are bound to each other,
Mother, father, sister, brother;
It's the love we give away
That means the most.
Everybody come out from within
Shed your woes and your sin
Join our singing
Raise your voice so loud and clear.
Come from all walks of life
Bear no trouble, keep no strife,
'Cause you know today's the day
To feed your soul.

Woke up this morning
Couldn't dig up a smile
I forgot where I left it
It's been quite a while
Since I last saw you
And the mem'ries grow dim
Now I'm stick in this hell, all alone,
Trying to get back to the way back when.
I drank up all the good years
Drowned in whiskey and rum
Found home in the bottle
I missed all the fun.
Thinking now, I'm repentant
I'd take back all I've done
I always knew how to find a good time,
But, Lord, this surely ain't one.
I looked through our old photos
The smiles and delights
Now the days they grow longer
Since the hurt comes at night
They never said it'd be easy
No one promised a lie
When I last kissed your hand, closed your casket,
And wished you a long goodnight.
I drank up all the good years
Drowned in whiskey and rum
Found home in the bottle
I missed all the fun.
Thinking now, I'm repentant
I'd take back all I've done
I always knew how to find a good time,
But, Lord, this surely ain't one.
These days I spend wishin' (wishin')
Wishing in vain I could
Take back the lying,
Take back the pain.
It's all I can do,
Try as I might,
To let go of these feelings,
And give up my fight
But I'll keep on without you.
My journey winds on
'Till the Good Lord calls me to my home
At his roadhouse in the great beyond.
I drank up all the good years
Drowned in whiskey and rum
Found home in the bottle
I missed all the fun.
Thinking now, I'm repentant
I'd take back all I've done
I always knew how to find a good time,
But, Lord, this surely ain't one.

The Old Church
03:40
|
|||
We all came down
From lives left behind.
Left troubles and cares
And worries of mind.
We all joined hands
Our heads down and bowed.
We took up the prayers
And spoke them out loud.
Inside our old church
On top of the hill
Where we come as one
To follow your will
We don't ask for much:
Just forgiveness and grace
To follow you home
To that heavenly place.
We count on our actions
To speak louder than words.
To walk in your ways
And spread peace here on earth
With music and food,
As we gather all,
Our love multiplies
When we answer your call.
Inside our old church
On top of the hill
Where we come as one
To follow your will
We don't ask for much:
Just forgiveness and grace
To follow you home
To that heavenly place.
Atop this fair city
At the end of the world
We break bread together
All souls will be served
With the glorious promise
Of a hero's return
To the great ever after —
Our faith reaffirmed.
Inside our old church
On top of the hill
Where we come as one
To follow your will
We don't ask for much:
Just forgiveness and grace
To follow you home
To that heavenly place.

Chasing Ghosts
05:19
|
|
||
Out in the world trying to make a way
See around the corner, looking past today
Giving everything I got to you
Hoping it's enough, I practice truth
Hoping it's enough [I practice truth]
Stand outside, light up a cigarette
Clear my head, catch my breath
Watch the light fade across the pavement here
Shadows lengthen as fear draws near
Shadows lengthen...
It's not like me to just stand still;
Keep on the path, fortify my will.
So I look beyond mistakes I hold,
And quit chasing ghosts before I grow old
And quit chasing ghosts before I grow old.
When every part of me feels broke down
I wind it up to go another round
Try to fix what's torn apart
Won't survive on a broken heart
Won't survive...
It's not like me to just stand still;
Keep on the path, fortify my will.
So I look beyond mistakes I hold,
And quit chasing ghosts before I grow old
And quit chasing ghosts before I grow old.
